▿▿ BARBARA ADLER ▿▿ Kooiker/Decoy Man (Work in Progress)
Theater, Spoken Word, Music

Chiquita Magic is Isis Giraldo’s choral-synthpop music. It will take you to a magical place. A place where you can let go a little bit, relax, move. Isis' music hopes to transcend cultural & social norms. She is interested in the cross pollination of seemingly contrasting styles (cumbia, salsa, choral music, hip-hop, jazz) with futuristic electronic textures to create new sounding and explorative songs. Her Colombian – Canadian identity has made her realize the power music has over inclusiveness, social justice, and equality. Her music is a reflection of her story and experiences; transcending status, culture, gender, language, and all other barriers that try and divide us.

She has released three “official” albums over the past three years (Isis Giraldo Poetry Project-2015, Chiquita Magic-2016, & Aventuras-2017) and has toured North & South America extensively both as Chiquita Magic & with other artists such as Brahja Waldman NYC, Emma Frank NYC / Quebec, & Louis Cole – L.A (opening 4 the Red Hot Chili Peppers). She recently toured Latin America with DIASPORA, her new duo project feat. Anais Maviel and is currently working on the final touches for the next Chiquita Magic album. She hopes to continue being surrounded by & collaborating with such an inspiring community of artists from all backgrounds.

Vancouver based drummer/producer Kai Basanta blends ethereal soundscapes with off-kilter beats in his new solo project. Primal yet otherworldly, his distinct experimental electronic/left-field hip-hop sound can be heard on his debut EP earth.

Barbara Adler is an interdisciplinary artist whose work brings together literary performance, composition, live event production and arts education to explore the intersections between text, music, sound and theatre. Her work has been presented through multiple solo and band albums, publication in spoken word anthologies and performances at major music and literary festivals, including The Vancouver Folk Festival, The Vancouver Writers Festival, The Winnipeg Folk Festival, and the Vienna Literature Festival. Recent collaborators include Lesley Telford, Mascall Dance and documentary filmmaker Jan Foukal.

Doors at 9:00pm, Performance at 9:30pm, $5 - $10 or PWYC at the door, cash only.
#211 - 207 West Hastings (Hastings & Cambie, above Nuba), instructions for entrance will be posted on the front door the night of the show.

Sawdust Collector takes place at The Gold Saucer Studio, a collective-run space located in The Dominion Building. Information on how to enter the show is posted on the front door of the building by 8:30 PM on every show night. You will need a cell phone to enter. If you do not have access to a phone, please contact us before the show and we will be happy to make alternative arrangements to get you in.

The front door is located at 207 W. Hastings. There is one stair between the sidewalk and the building level. The studio is located on the second floor, and is accessible by elevator. Seating is informal. There is one single-occupancy, gender-inclusive washroom on the second floor, accessible by key. We are a trans-inclusive space.

Sawdust Collector is run by us, three artists and our friends, who curate and produce the events on a volunteer basis. We own the glassware but not the room. A bit of scruff is part of the deal. If you have questions about what kind of scruff you're in for, please feel free to contact us: [email protected]
